Sumiton Christian Lady Eagles Takes Second in Gulf Shores

Sumiton Christian was seeded 23rd going into the final day of the Gulf Coast Classic II Tournament in Gulf Shores on Wednesday.
The Eagles (17-6) didn’t let the seeding hold them back in the 41-team tournament.
Sumiton Christian caught fire on Wednesday, winning four straight games to advance to the tournament championship game before finally running out of gas in a 4-2 loss to Hartselle, last year’s Class 5A state champion.
The Eagles ran through four straight ranked teams before falling to Tigers.
Sumiton Christian, the No. 1 team in Class 2A, defeated James Clemens (the No. 10 team in Class 7A) 2-1, Colbert Heights (the No. 4 team in Class 3A) 8-4, Alabama Christian (the No. 4 team in Class 5A) 1-0 and Cordova (the No. 4 in Class 4A) 7-4.

Hartselle 4, Sumiton Christian 2
Jenna Ergle pitched four innings in the loss for Sumiton Christian, giving up seven hits, four runs, a walk and struck out one batter.
Sumiton Christian led 2-0 after the first inning, following a two-run double by Holly Murray.
Hartselle scored two runs in the third and broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fourth.
At the plate, Kendell Hamm went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI triple, Holly Murray was 1 for 2 with an RBI double, Kendall Beth Sides was 1 for 3 and Ergle scored a run.
Sumiton Christian hosts the Walker Vikings on Tuesday.

Sumiton Christian 7, Cordova 4
Jenna Ergle got the win, giving up four runs, four hits, seven walks and struck out one batter in five innings.
At the plate, the Eagles’ Kendall Beth Sides went 1 for 3 with three runs scored, Kendell Hamm was 1 for 3 with a run scored, Kirsten Click recorded a hit, Savannah DeLuca scored two runs and Ergle scored a run.
Faith Sims pitched five innings in the loss for Cordova, giving up one earned run, three hits, seven walks with 10 strikeouts.
Offensively for the Blue Devils, Sims went 1 for 1 with two RBIs, Mary Kilpatrick was 2 for 2 with a run scored, Ansley Ardoin went 1 for 3 with an RBI, Hanna McLemore was 1 for 1 with a run scored, while Baleigh Robertson and Maggie Benson scored runs.
Cordova hosts the Winfield Pirates on Tuesday.

Kendall Beth Sides scored the lone run of the game in the sixth inning as the Eagles knocked off the Montgomery school.
Sides was 1 for 3 with a stolen base and a run while Savanah Langston and Jenna Ergle were both 1 for 3.
Ergle got the win, allowing three hits and striking out four.

Sumiton Christian 2, James Clemens 1
The Eagles scored two runs in the fourth inning and made the lead stand, edging James Clemens 2-1.
Sumiton Christian got on the board when Kendall Beth Sides and Savanah Langston singled and Jenna Ergle walked to lead off the fourth inning. Kendell Hamm drove in two runs with a single.
Sides finished 2 for 3 with a run, Langston was 1 for 2 with a run and Hamm was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.
Ergle got the win in the circle, allowing two hits and two walks.

Sumiton Christian took control of the game, scoring two runs in the first and three in the third for a 5-0 lead.
The Eagles led 8-2 after four innings.
Abbie Brewster was 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs to lead the offense, Kendall Beth Sides was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, Jenna Ergle was 1 for 2 with a home run, two runs and an RBI, Holly Murray was 1 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, Anna Kate Tyree was 1 for 3 with a run and Kendell Hamm was 1 for 1 with an RBI.Sides got the win in the circle.
