Sumiton Christian would like to congratulate Ricky Bowen for being named the new head baseball coach and assistant principal. Coach Bowen has been a part of the Eagle family for a long time and we are thrilled to announce his new role at SCS. Coach Bowen is a Sumiton Christian 2005 graduate. He was a part of the 2004 SCS State Championship team and named Player of the Year. He went on to play baseball at Mississippi State and in the College World Series in 2007 leading the MSU pitching staff in appearances and ERA. He was a 2007 NCAA Louisville Slugger All-American, played in Cape Cod Collegiate, the Summer League in 2008 & 2009. Bowen also was drafted and played for the Cincinnati Reds, Minnesota Twins, and was a 2012 High A Florida State League All-Star. He has trained and coached over 60 athletes that have gone on to compete at the collegiate level in the last nine years. He has a passion for not only growing players as athletes, but good, Christian young men.

Ricky has been married to Kellye Bowen (Head Volleyball Coach at Spain Park) for eleven years. Their one son, Russ is an upcoming third grader at SCS. The Bowen family is a huge part of SCS. All of Ricky's siblings are SCS graduates including his sister, Dr. Clara Underwood who played softball for Samford University and South Alabama and his sister Dr. Collin Louden cheered and played volleyball at Lee University and his brother, Will "Bubba" Bowen is a senior manager of Walt Disney World.

Athletics and a love for SCS is ingrained in Coach Bowen and we can't wait to see what he does on and off the field at Sumiton Christian. Congratulations and Go Eagles!
